The India Meteorological Department predicted below average rains for the monsoon season which runs from June to September and that accounts for about 80 percent of India’s annual rainfall. As a heat wave persisted over northern parts of the country, the monsoon made landfall in the western Indian city of Mumbai on Sunday.
